Some of my adds on won't work if I update to version 4.0.1. How do I make these compatible or does Firefox automatically update and enable these? What I really need to know is if I update to the newer version will my add on's work?

Specifically, which add-ons?

Hi I don't have the info to hand but know that one of them was Skype. There were 2 others which I will know when I get another prompt to update. Sorry - not very computer literate.

You don't want the Skype add-on in Firefox, it is notorious for causing all sorts of problems with Firefox. Plus it isn't necessary for using Skype, all the extension really does is create hyperlinks for phone numbers that are on web pages so you can call a phone number that is displayed on a webpage without typing the number in the Skype application.

You can check compatibility of the most popular extensions that are hosted at the AMO website here:
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/compatibility/report
For extensions that aren't hosted at AMO you are on your own.

With the release of Firefox 5 just two weeks away, any extension that isn't compatible with Firefox 4 right now should be considered dead - IMHO.
