restoring bookmarks from bookmarks.html file after reinstallation?
Hi, I reinstalled my computer recently and deleted all the data on it to avoid damage by a previous troyan. Before I obviously saved all my data, but it seems I made a mistake on the bookmarks.
Following the advice on an online forum I copied the bookmarks.html file from C:\Documents and Settings\username\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles and saved it externally. Then, according to that advice, the bookmarks get restored if you paste that file in the same spot after reinstallation.
Unfortunatly it seems this is not the way you do it on newer versions of firefox. I couldn't find firefox 3.5 to download just to try if it would work then.
I tried to go to my bookmars library to the import and save option, but neither import html nor restore can bring back my bookmark list into firefox. Unfortunately I couldn't find the export option before the reinstallation.
Is there any way I can restore my bookmarks with the bookmarks.html file?

Sorry, the bookmarks.html file in the Profile folder hasn't been used to store active bookmarks since the Firefox 2 versions, back in 2008. Whatever is in that file is either old bookmarks still around from an old version of Firefox (2.0 or earlier) or the 4 or 5 default bookmarks that come with Firefox.
ok, so basically I have no way of restoring my bookmarks ;) thanks for your answer, I think I should stop looking for a solution now :D
Sorry, the advice you probably would have been given here would have been to "backup" your entire Profile folder, instead of that old bookmark file.
