this problem suddenly started today. I am on windows xp professional service pack 2. Nothing has changed except that I got a message for upgrading my adobe flash player and I executed the upgrade. The youtube videos work on ie, but I would hate to use ie.

Clear the cache and the cookies from sites that cause problems.

"Clear the Cache":

  • Tools > Options > Advanced > Network > Offline Storage (Cache): "Clear Now"

"Remove Cookies" from sites causing problems:

  • Tools > Options > Privacy > Cookies: "Show Cookies"

Start Firefox in Diagnose Firefox issues using Troubleshoot Mode to check if one of the extensions is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox (Tools) > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).

What worked for me was to disable the add-on AdBlockPlus. That was causing the trouble, and once I disabled it and restarted Firefox, YouTube worked fine.
