I'd like to set it so that I get system restore, but when I go into Tools, General, When Firefox Starts, the option Show my Windows and Tabs from Last Time is grey and can't be chosen - how can I select it, please?

Make sure that you not run Firefox in (permanent) Private Browsing - Use Firefox without saving history mode.

  • In Private Browsing mode some menu items and features are disabled and show as grayed choices.
  • You are in Private Browsing mode if you see "Tools > Stop Private Browsing", possibly grayed.
  • You enter Private Browsing mode if you select: Tools > Options > Privacy > History: Firefox will: "Never Remember History"
  • To see all History and Cookie settings, choose: Tools > Options > Privacy, choose the setting Firefox will: Use custom settings for history
  • Uncheck: [ ] "Permanent Private Browsing mode"
