I have a MacBook. OS X. I'm trying to upgrade to latest version of firefox. won't load as it says "another version of firefox is in operation."

I would like to know how to load the newest version. Everytime I attempt to load it...to drag the icon into the folder...it says "another version of firefox is in operation." How do I get around this? As far as I know....firefix is actually not running...not active as I'm trying to load the latest version.
