Hi Firefox,

My Windows XP Pro sp3 computer will occasionally freeze up and give me the hourglass mouse pointer. It mostly happens if I try and cut and paste a website link or text into an email. It also has occurred when trying to right click on my desktop to try and create a new folder or perform other task.It just locked up my Outlook and all that I was trying to do was drag and drop an email into an Outlook folder in my folder list.

This happened on my old computer build as well.I have since reloaded the computer with a fresh installation of Windows XP Pro sp 3 and I'm having the same issues with Firefox as before.

Hello,

Try disabling graphics hardware acceleration. Since this feature was added to Firefox, it has gradually improved, but there still are a few glitches.

You might need to restart Firefox in order for this to take effect, so save all work first (e.g., mail you are composing, online documents you're editing, etc.).

Then perform these steps:

  • Click the orange Firefox button at the top left, then select the "Options" button, or, if there is no Firefox button at the top, go to Tools > Options.
  • In the Firefox options window click the Advanced tab, then select "General".
  • In the settings list, you should find the Use hardware acceleration when available checkbox. Uncheck this checkbox.
  • Now, restart Firefox and see if the problems persist.

Additionally, please check for updates for your graphics driver by following the steps mentioned in the following Knowledge base articles:

Did this fix your problems? Please report back to us!

Thank you.

Hi Waka,

I unchecked the hardware acceleration option but am still having the same issue.

Thank you for your suggestion.

Hopefully Firefox can figure it out.
