I have downloaded the extensions Pin it & Awesome screenshot and they are in the manager but they dont show up as icons in my browser.

They are not disabled and when I downloaded them to my firefox on my old laptop (just got a new laptop) it wasnt a problem. They just popped up in the top right corner.

does it get available if you hit "Restore Default Set" in the customization panel?

Nope. Its really annoying. They are downloaded and endabled in the extensions section, but I cant get them to be "available" as icons so I cant use them.
