I have removed and reinstalled mozilla firefox and ran malware,Avg,slowpc etc etc etc. I cannot remove mysearchdial even after removing add-on through firefox tools. I have also added the removed extension cleaner and still cannot remove. I have always used Firefox and mozillas products and reccomended products, but am ready to stop because of the malware issue. Can you assist me?

Hello Marinadoug, check also in windows Control panel > Uninstall a Program/ Add or Remove Programs, and delete it from there.

also, check IF you have in your profile folder a User.js file. The user.js file does not exist by default. If you create the file, forget it, if you have not create the file then try to delete the User.js file, to see if the problem goes away (some programs create and write in the file also).

thank you

hello, could you go to firefox > help > troubleshooting information, copy the contents of that page and paste them here into a reply on the forum? this might give us a clue what is going on...

I just removed all Mozilla fire fox apps as it was destroying my computer faster than I could fix. The problem is directly related to Mysearchdial.com This add-on was installed through firefox download and I could not get it completely removed no matter how many times I removed and reinstalled. I have used firefox for years but now I have no choice but to use internet explorer.

most malware that hooks into firefox is pretty easy to tackle:

  1. reset firefox (this will keep your bookmarks and passwords)
  2. afterwards go to firefox > addons > extensions and in case there are still extensions listed there, disable them.
  3. finally run a full scan of your system with different security tools like the free version of malwarebytes and adwcleaner to make sure that adware isn't present in other places of your system as well.

A 3rd party program may have hijacked your search engine.

  1. At the top of the Firefox window, click on the Firefox button (Tools menu in Windows XP), and then click Add-ons. The Add-ons Manager tab will open.
  2. In the Add-ons Manager tab, select the Extensions panel.
  3. Select the toolbar you wish to remove.
  4. Click the remove button.
  5. Click "Restart now" if it pops up. Your tabs will be saved and restored after the restart.

After Firefox restarts, install the Search Reset Tool. This will remove the rest of the traces of this program from your Firefox.

For further information, please read Remove a toolbar that has taken over your Firefox search or home page.

You can try these free programs to scan for malware, which work with your existing antivirus software:

Microsoft Security Essentials is a good permanent antivirus for Windows 7/Vista/XP if you don't already have one.
