Every time after I get an update on Firefox Nightly and run it, it will show the following page: https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/nightly/firstrun/?oldversion=30.0 which is fine. But when it opens this page, all my desktop icons go clear/blank and one by one they all come back with their correct icons again. And this all happens in a couple of seconds. Why is the running of Firefox Nightly for the first time affecting my desktop icons?

I suspect that you have both Nightly and Firefox release installed?

"The Firefox 'about' shows 30.0. and I've now checked for updates and are now running 33.1.1"

That's different than what you first posted here with! Firefox 33.1.1 is the latest Release version - a 32-bit version.

Whereas, the version you first posted here with was a 64-bit Nightly channel version build from July. Nightly is intended for "Alpha-Testers" and is updated everyday, hence the "nightly" name.

Whatever is happening in the background to the Windows desktop shouldn't be of concern right now, Nightly Win 64-bit is many months away from release. If you really want to test the Nightly Win 64 builds, monitor and participate in the various Nightly and "channels" threads over in MozillaZine Builds forum.

Hmm it says you are using a random (six weeks of builds) old Nightly build of 33.0a1 and not 36.0a1

The 33.0.a1 was from when 33.0 was on the Nightly channel as July 21 was the last build of 33.0a1 then as 34.0a1 started on Nightly July 22.

If you really want to be Testing the Nightly development builds then http://nightly.mozilla.org/

Also you may get better answers by posting in http://forums.mozillazine.org/viewforum.php?f=23 as that is where the Testers hang out vs here. Note: new members first post there needs post approval.

That's interesting. The Firefox 'about' shows 30.0. and I've now checked for updates and are now running 33.1.1 On a fairly regular interval, like 3..4 days, when I start Nightly, it starts up with this link: https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/nightly/firstrun/?oldversion=30.0

The issue is that all desktop icons go on the blink when that page is loading. What is that page doing in the background that is affecting the windows desktop?

Oh, and one other thing ....

That /nightly/firstrun/?oldversion=30.0 is probably a result of having two separate channels installed, that are using the same Profile. Not advised, easy way to cause problems or to "break" your Firefox data files - you should have a separate Profile for each different version of Firefox that you have installed. Explained in the 2nd "sticky" thread in the MozillaZine Builds forum.

You're absolutely right about having both the 32 and the 64 bit installation. In my ignorance, when I installed Nightly, I thought that the 32 bit version would uninstall. I have now uninstalled the 32bit version to make sure testing only happens on Nightly.

This thread can now be closed since I didn't had a correct test environment in the first place. Thank you for your response.
