You can try to retrieve mail before sending. Some servers are configured to only send mail when you have authenticated by retrieving mail...

What do you mean by retrieve email? How do I do that?

I have been doing that. Here is the complete message I get. It was cut off in my initial question. "An error occurred while sending mail. The mail server responded: Authentication is required before sending [R0107005]. Please verify that your email address is correct in your Mail preferences and try again."

I finally called Time Warner and they had me change the outgoing server settings. This fixed it. Don't know why the stmp-servercarolina.rr.com stopped working, but the new one "mail.twc.com" worked. i did have to change the port also back to the default 587 from 25. Don't know what happened but it is working again. Thanks for trying to help.
