Sound is faint on You Tube and some other videos, but ads are still loud. The exact same You Tube video will sound loud in IE. This is an ASUS laptop with Windows 7. I have Silverlight already (just checked.)

Let's start with this;

Update your Flash Player Version 18.0.0.160

Updated Adobe, Flash, Java and also got updates from Windows Update (except Skype). Nothing has changed: audio from some places like You Tube and the NPR web site is faint; ads are loud. So is Writers Almanac. Maybe I am missing something in the article about graphics drivers, I don't know.

Did you check the volume settings in the HTML5 media player?

Where do I see how to do that? Sorry, I don't know what a HTML5 media player is.

Run the mouse over the clip you want to watch. Does a control board show up? Look for the volume control.

Thanks. I've got the volume turned up on Windows itself. On the videos there's mute or un-mute, no volume control. Thanks for the links. I figured I'd deal with the ad blocking later once I can listen to music again.

Does Silverlight need to be set up to always activate? It's set to ask to activate, which looks like a default here, I don't see anything asking. Or does this have nothing to do with my problem? I think Flash is set to always activate. Still having the same problem. Oddly enough, music used to work OK up until some time this year.

I've called the big guys to help you. Good luck.

Thanks. I hope someone has a fix for this.

That was a nice thing to do, to see if someone else could help. Only I didn't hear from anyone. So is Firefox on my computer hopelessly messed up? If I wanted to put it back to all its original settings, could I do that without losing all the bookmarks?
