FireFox crash on start up

more options

Not sure what happened. on Thursday June 18th, I was using Firefox, checking facebook, emails and banking, when it froze and locked up my pc. I had to do a hard restart on my pc by holding the power button, when I tried to open Firefox again, it again locked up on start and crashed out my pc once again and did the same steps to get my pc running again. so i got on the support page and did the process requesting to fix the issues, but nothing worked.

I check my crash report folder to see if a report made, but last report was back in 2014 in the fall time, nothing for the new issues. then I unistalled Firefox and any files that was told to in the forum, and re installed FireFox again, but that did not work, it just crashed once again and locking up the pc. I've tried to get into safe mode but it crashed and lock up the pc again, I don't what else to do, I love Firefox, and need it for many things i do, since only browser that is supported by many websites and games. now having to use another browser until i fix FireFox crashing on start up.

If you mean folders under either of these

C:\Program Files\
C:\Program Files (x86)\

You don't need to remove them, they are essentially hidden. On the other hand, you don't really need to keep them, other than to dig out any obscure plugins for which you aren't able to find an installer.

Is there nothing more I can do? Is this goodbye Firefox after 10 years?

Hi iantwebb, here we are on page 2 of this thread with no crash reports that we can interpret, so I feel as though we have made a number of reasonable blind guesses but we can't make progress without more information on your Firefox crashes. Do you still have any recent profile folders? Did you try the steps to find submitted crash reports on disk?

See: "Firefox crashes - asking for support"

As I have said above there are no crash reports. In fact Firefox has hardly ever crashed before this.I have very few plugins or addons except Norton. But as you can see I cannot install or run firefox at all now. As I said in the past few days I have been using Internet Explorer and Chrome without any problems. So this seems to be unique to Firefox. I was advised by one of you earlier to run a registry cleaning program, but I dont know if this did anything.

So is this the only support I can get. Firefox? Am I looking in the wrong place for crash reports? I would gladly pay if only there were an expert who could take remote control and sort this out.

Hi iantwebb, this is the only support on the official Mozilla site. There must be lots of other options of varying level of quality and trustworthiness.

Am I looking in the wrong place for crash reports?

Hard for me to know. I linked to our support article about finding crash reports.

OK in the Crash Reports in the Mozilla.old folder there are two items. A folder named Events is empty, and the other item is called Installtime20150826023504. If I open it with a text reader it has only one thing in it: the number 1444085281

Another thing: there seems to be increasing consensus online that running registry cleaning software is not very wise these days.

I suppose I could just try a Windows recovery back 4 or 5 days to a set pint when Firefox was working, but that seems a bit drastic considering there are no other problems except Firefox.

I do sense that you are frustrated Jscher and Fred but honestly I have been carrying out all the suggestions and they haven't been working.

We are both sorry we can't just tell you how to fix this issue, but without information, we are working in the dark.

The problem is that because Firefox crashes before opening, there are no crash reports. The only "error" message is the Windows appcrash details which I have sent you several times. I will try installing in Windows Safe mode, but what I have been finding so far is that even when Firefox does install and appear to work, it always fails again after I reboot. And as I say this is early in the launch process so no crash report is created. My guess is only a person with a very detailed knowledge of perhaps how a corrupt windows file could block Firefox but not affect any other programs or browsers could, with access to my laptop, solve this.

NEWS: Meanwhile here we have Firefox up and running again. With the automatically created new file. I fear that if I reboot the problem will recur as has happened each time before. However I will not close Windows yet in case you have any suggestions of what I can do now. If I close Firefox which you are supposed to do to creat a new profile, it may not open again!

I don't know if this will help,

https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/how-to-fix-preferences-wont-save

Note: Some software, like Advanced SystemCare with Surfing Protection, can protect files in the Firefox profile folder against changes. If you have such software then check the settings or uninstall this software.

DOES MOZILLA HAVE ANY RECOMMENDED TECHNICIANS HERE IN LONDON UK WHO could help?

more options

I use Norton 360, Webroot (but I have tried installing and running Firefox with Webroot disabled), MSMPEng (Microsoft antimalware) . Have been running these without any Firefox issues for many years! I do not have or run Advanced System Care). If installed in Windows Safe mode I can then launch Firefox safe mode which is not currently possible in my normal Windows. Once again I ask the entire Mozilla UK community: DOES MOZILLA HAVE ANY RECOMMENDED TECHNICIANS HERE IN LONDON UK WHO could help?

Hi iantwebb, did you mean to follow up in your new thread here?

Once again I ask the entire Mozilla UK community: DOES MOZILLA HAVE ANY RECOMMENDED TECHNICIANS HERE IN LONDON UK WHO could help?

There might be a Mozilla UK community somewhere online, but this is just the general support forum and at the end of a two-page thread it's unlikely anyone new will notice this question.
