How to disable the empty translucent gray sidebar that comes in from the left side of Firefox
In the last couple of days (since the last upgrade, I think) whenever I mouse over to the left side of Firefox, a large, gray, translucent sidebar appears, covering half the page. It has an X in the upper right corner, which says "close sidebar" when I mouse over it. However, it does not respond to my mouse click. I can get rid of the sidebar by mousing to the far right of my screen. But it's a real nuisance that every time my mouse strays left, that thing slides in from the left. Image attached.
Thanks in advance.

OK. Weird thing... I will post how I solved this, just in case some other poor hapless person is going through the same at one time or another.
First, I moused left and brought up the empty translucent gray sidebar. Then, I pressed CTL B (as suggested in an otherwise seemingly unrelated post from 2015). This, surprisingly, populated the now-no-longer-gray window with some bookmarks. Then, I clicked on the X in the upper right hand corner of the box and it retreated out of view. Now it no longer appears when I mouse left either. Yay! Hope this helps others too.

The image didn't upload the first time, so I'm adding it now.
