TB only starts in safe mode
Folks,
I tried everything, disable addons, delete thunderbird, kill the profils folder.
I use 6 email accounts, all on my own kapano server, imap.
TB only starts in safe mode, otherwiese the applications just ends, no report, no nothing.
TB startet behaving funny when I added the 6th account, most times i could not send mails. i would click send and nothing would happen. So I made a mozbackup and killed TB and brought everything back from Backup. First start is fine. Then after TB syncs its folders (some GB, most of it in Archive) it starts to not start at all.

re :I made a mozbackup and killed TB and brought everything back from Backup
I presume you mean you used 'mozbackup' : http://mozbackup.jasnapaka.com/ MozBackup is not being developed anymore. There are known issues and there is no time on my side to fix all issues and develop new features. Use MozBackup only on your risk.
Recommended that you do not use Mozbackup. Backups should be done by copying the 'Thunderbird' folder located in : C:\Users\<Windows user name>\AppData\Roaming\Thunderbird
re: stuck in Safe Mode
Suggest you try: Start Thunderbird in Safe Mode Select the checkbox 'Reset toolbars and controls' click on 'Make Changes and Restart' button
If this starts as normal and still has issue. Suggest you create a new profile using 'Profile Manager' and add mail accounts. Either Exit Thunderbird and use info at the link: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/using-multiple-profiles#w_starting-the-profile-manager OR In Thunderbird Help > Troubleshooting Information Under 'Application Basics' section last in list is 'Profiles'..click on 'about:profiles' 'about:profiles' will open in a new tab click on 'Create a new Profile' button. Then info to create profile will be same as info at the link under section 'Creating a Profile'.

No luck, I did try it a few times, and once more right now, no change, TB just does not start.

I know you guys dont recomend mozbackup.
But your recomended way is not practical. sorry to have to say that, I love TB...
copying the Thunderbird folder is not possible, it contains GB of emails that are stored on the IMPA server, i dont intend to copy my profile about a 2mbit DSL line from the server to the local computer just to get my settings abord.
I operate about 25 pc and I my self have a user on all of them, I would need days to configure all the TB instances. with all the folders settings, signatures, rules etc. pp.
since no alternative, I have to use MozBackup.
How about you guys add a "settings" import/export function?
What I am going to try is I will have a mozbackup only bring in the email settings, nothing else.
The crash report indicates a problem with a DisplayLink module. Disconnect or uninstall any DisplayLink devices and see if TB still crashes.
I just started TB with a clean install and added only the account settings, nothing else per mozbackup.
if the problem shows up again, ill try with only one screen (unplugging the DisplayLink moduls).
in about an hour my email is back in this TB session. then I report back.

Thank you kindly, I now can confirm, it was not the DisplayLink that crashed TB, as TB now works fine with the same DisplayLink moduels still at work... But thanks for pointing me to the crash report.
okay, as I described, I just loaded the general settings with mozbackup, nothing else.
now after syncing, TB runs fine.
with one exception. on every start, it asks for beeing the standard mail client. I confirm that, as I dont have an other mail client, but next start, again.
and the 68.4.2 version created 2 profiles, default and default-release...?
i imported to default, no sucess, then i started from scratch and imported to default-release, and now it seams to work, exept for the above mentioned thing.
If you've already set TB as the default, uncheck the box 'Always check to see...' in the Systems Integration section of Tools/Options/Advanced/General. If it's already unchecked, we'll have to consider other possibilities.
TB works fine and starts fine.
Since recently I cant set TB as the standard email client, I only can have TB dont check if it is the standard client.
And on my phone (firefox as well) I could click a "this was a helpfull answer" button but did not see all answers that where posted here...
while in the firefox on my desktop I dont have this choise but see all answers....
since this borard seams to be acting funny: I herewith declare all answers as beeing helpfull! Thanks guys.

This is a known bug when working with Windows 7.

In the same Systems Integration section, click Check Now... to set TB as the default client. It sometimes also works better if you run the full installer over the existing setup, and set TB as default during the (Advanced) installation, then restart the computer.
