why is it so bloody complicated to create a signature in thunderbird. I could do it in outlook in seconds. thunderbird won't let me copy and paste a logo into the signature field and any file I'm attempting to attached to the signature word, pdf, png, jpeg. none of them seem to work? how do I create my custom signature?

maybe its just all thunderbird technologies. I've attempted to upload an image below and it won't allow anything to upload either.

I tried to copy the image across to here to show you what I'm trying to create. however it would only copy across the text not my logo.

Useful advise, but it's up to you....I have created a folder called 'Signatures' which is in my computer user account along with Documents and Photos etc. That 'Signature' folder contains any images I want to use in a signature. I also save all my html signature files in that 'Signature' folder. So everything to do with Thunderbird signatures is all in one place.

You need to use the 'Write' composing window to create the signature.

Hints: Before you do anything, I would recommend you add an empty line as it makes it easier to work with. So press 'Enter/Return' key. If you are including an image then I would suggest you create the signature in a table as it means you can control positioning of text and image. Insert > Table set number of rows and columns - you can add or remove later, but handy to set this now.

When you want to include an image you need to insert it. Either via the Menu Bar toolbar or the Formatting Bar. 'Insert' > 'Image' click on 'Choose file' to choose an image Select checkbox 'attach this image to the message' Add Alternate text

The 'Dimensions' tab allows you change how image appears. I often use 'Custom Size' and 'Contrain' to set a width of eg: 200 pixels, height is auto adjusted. The 'Appearance' tab allows you to set spacing and alignment. The 'Link' tab allows you turn the image into a clickable link.

click on OK

then save file as a html file. File > Save as > File Choose location eg; a folder called 'Signatures' where you keep all html signature files. Give file a suitable name and save as file type 'HTML'.

Right click on mail account name in Folder Pane and select 'Settings' In Account Settings

  • Select checkbox 'attach the signature from a file instead
  • click on 'Choose' and locate the html file you just saved.
  • click on Open.
  • Click on Ok

You cannot copy anything but text into the text box in the forum. But you can take screen dumps of computer screen using the 'Prt Scr' key on keyboard, then use a program like 'Paint' and use 'Ctrl+V' to paste image into 'Paint'. Tidy up image and save as jpg in a folder on desktop. Then use the 'Add images' ..'Browse' button to locate the stored image and post into forum.
