Firefox 80.0 update messed up my profile. I solved that problem, but now Firefox Update is pestering me to update to 80.1 and I am afraid to do that update. But Firefox Update will not allow me to reject that update and the Update pop-up is aggravating. How do I "Just Say No!"? Thank you, Bill Gray

The 'powers that be' removed that option.

How do you completely turn off update checks in Firefox v64? You can use a policies.json file to disable updates for all users. https://github.com/mozilla/policy-templates/blob/master/README.md or https://winaero.com/blog/disable-updates-firefox-63-above/

You can use a policies.json file in the distribution folder in the Firefox installation folder instead as also listed in the article, so no need to use GPO keys in the Windows Registry. • https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/customizing-firefox-using-policiesjson

There is no reason not to do the minor update from 80.0 to 80.0.1 as this update merely involves fixing some issues that were reported.

Hi Cor-el, Normally I would agree with you that it is good to keep the browser up to date. However, when I updated to 80.0, that update changed my profile and I lost all my Bookmarks and my Bookmark Toolbar, which I used frequently. In other words, the 80.0 update gave me a new user profile.

It took a while, but I finally found how to restore my previous profile - and to fix the few things mentioned in the update description which to the best of my knowledge do not affect me in an major way - the gamble that the new update would cause a similar problem is not worth it.

My main questions is: Why in the world did the update to 80.0 change my profile so drastically, or at all?

On the other hand, that stupid Update Pop-up is aggravating when I know I am NOT going to do it. So, my question is: How do I "just say no" to the pop-up and bid it a found adieu? Thank you for responding, Bill Gray

Hi FredMcD, Thank you for your response. But there must be an easier way to "Just Say No" to the Update Pop-up - without having to do heart surgery on the inner workings of Firefox. A simple "No Thank You" to make the pop-up go away and not come back would be sufficient.

As I said in an earlier response, when I updated to 80.0, that update changed my profile and I lost all my Bookmarks and my Bookmark Toolbar, which I used frequently. In other words, the 80.0 update gave me a new user profile.
