Adding new bookmarks

more options

When I add a new bookmarks I can see them in "Recent labels", but not in "Other bookmarks" (the last one in that folder is of the 20th of February 2022), so I can see only my last 10 saved bookmarks from the 02/20/2022 since now. The bookmarks are surely saved, because if I try to delete one fromt the "Recent labels" another one less recent appears, but only in the "Recent labels" folder and not in the "Other bookmarks". So, what I have to do to see my saved bookmarks not present in the "Other bookmarks" folder, but not so recent to be visible in the "Recent labels"? Thank you!

Hi 84Gabriele, Firefox will repeatedly use the last save folder for new bookmarks. It sounds like the last save folder changed and is no longer "Other Bookmarks".

One method to discover the folder is to bookmark a page (any page), then click the blue star in the address bar to open the editor panel. The selector below "Location" shows the current folder and the little v button to the right opens a folder list so you can see where it is in the folder hierarchy if it's a buried folder.

Does that accurately identify where the bookmarks are saved?

I see the same but I never put bookmarks in Other Bookmarks. You create folders and place your bookmarks in them.

Those Recent types of folders are showing the result of a database query. The bookmarks you see in such a list are stored elsewhere in a bookmarks folder. If you delete a bookmark from such a recent list then you remove the actual bookmark stored elsewhere and the next result from the query takes its place.

In Firefox 96 and newer you can right-click a bookmark search/query result and click "Show in Folder" to locate this bookmark in the folder list.

I can only see the last 10 bookmarks saved (showned in the "Recent labels" folder), but I cannot see the older ones. To see them I have to delete some bookmarks from the recent folder so I will see the less recent bookmarks instead of the previous, but not more than 10. How can I see the older (a part from the last recent 10) saved bookmarks?

Like I wrote above, the recent bookmark list only shows the result of a query and shows a limited amount of bookmarks.

You can open the bookmarks sidebar via "Ctrl+B" or open the Bookmarks Manager (Library) via "Ctrl+Shift+O" to see all your bookmarks.

You can also drag the Bookmarks Menu button that shows the bookmarks in a drop-down list from the Customize palette to the Navigation Toolbar. This Bookmarks Menu button has a "View bookmarks sidebar" menu item.

See "How do I add the Bookmarks Menu button to the toolbar?"

As I wrote in the first message, in the Bookmarks Manager I can only see the bookmarks saved until the 20th of February 2022. I cannot see anymore the recent ones apart from the last 10 from the "Recent labels" folder, but if I try to delete someone of these 10, in the Recent folder appear the others less recent, but not more than 10. So it means that the bookmarks since the 02/20/2022 are saved but I cannot see them.

If you use Sync then best is to disconnect Sync temporarily during troubleshooting.

This could be a problem with the places.sqlite and favicons.sqlite files in the Firefox profile folder.

  • use the "Places Database" -> "Verify Integrity" button on the "Help -> More Troubleshooting Information" (about:support) page

If errors are reported with "Verify Integrity", close and restart Firefox or reboot and retry.

If "Verify Integrity" cannot repair places.sqlite, rename/remove all places.sqlite and favicons.sqlite files in the Firefox profile folder with Firefox closed. Firefox will rebuild places.sqlite and restore the bookmarks from the most recent JSON backup in the bookmarkbackups folder.

  • keep a backup copy of places.sqlite in case a new places.sqlite database has to be created
  • you lose the history when a new places.sqlite is created

You may have to restore an older bookmarks backup in the bookmarkbackups folder via the Bookmarks Manager (Library).

You can use the button on the "Help -> More Troubleshooting Information" (about:support) page to go to the current Firefox profile folder or use the about:profiles page (Root directory).
