i can not get the safe mode reset box to appear period. I have just your standard ole firefox latest edition. I can get into the safe mode version of firefox but the box to reset stuff does not show up like all the help sites say it should, and there is no other way to get to this box apparently which leaves me little option but to uninstall it. This did not help. It still refuses to reset or show the safe mode reset box. You can tell me all you like to keep reinstalling the program, removing registry entries deleteing the stored data, I've done all that and it still fails.

If you don't see the Firefox SafeMode dialog for resets, you're not in SafeMode. You have to make sure that there is no firefox.exe process running or "hanging". Look in the Windows Task Manager > Process tab (or whatever it's called in Win7), highlight the process and End Process. Then the Firefox SafeMode should open.

Remedy: Uninstalled Firefox and Won't be Back, to many issues and no useful help for this exact issue. The remedy you suggest had or has been tried countless times and is listed in more forums then i can count. I've done them all to no avail. Sorry but I simply can't keep running into the issue and not getting an answer that hasn't already been repeated 1000 times elsewhere. Thanks for your reply, but I'm outta here.

Create a new profile as a test to check if your current profile is causing the problems. See Basic Troubleshooting: Make a new profile

There may be extensions and plugins installed by default in a new profile, so check that in "Tools > Add-ons > Extensions & Plugins"

If that new profile works then you can transfer some files from the old profile to that new profile (be careful not to copy corrupted files)

See http://kb.mozillazine.org/Transferring_data_to_a_new_profile_-_Firefox

Already tried that, and several occasions took drastic steps by even editing the registry, deleting anything to do with Firefox. This is not the first time I've had this error crop up. In fact it cropped up last year, but i upgraded to windows 7 and had to reinstall again so it remedied the problems automatically on installation. Its happened now with 2 version of FF and 2 different windows editions, and scouring the net, including these forums never fixed it, and I've spent better then a week along on trying to figure it out. 7 days is enough thanks. God created the world in less time. I remedied it by going back it IE and using Chrome as a backup. Seems to do alright. Perhaps Firefox will learn to put that safe mode screen box link in the tools menu so its available no matter what you do without having to load a special edition of Firefox or anything. Just an option to consider, but who am i, no one actually. If this is the best you can get from free then it's really not free, if its failure costs you bundle. I uninstalled so anyone that would wish to further comment is welcome. I can not apply or will be able to apply your fixes as you describe them, most of them have already been tried on numerous accounts and times. Thanks.
