Why does Firefox crash when using VNC?

Recently downloaded Firefox 4 to my Solaris box and it runs fine when logged in locally. However when I VNC to the box (from Windows XP using TightVNC) it crashes while launching.

In my case, I can work around this problem by starting firefox with the --sync option.
