I installed Firefox 4.0 on a new build running win 7 . Even though "remember passwords" is checked and exception list is cleared. It will not save passwords for ANY website. A popup box asks if I want to save it and when I click affirmative, nothing happens. What a tease! If I check the list of save passwords, the list is clear. I have tried MANY websites and none work.

Start Firefox in Diagnose Firefox issues using Troubleshoot Mode to check if one of the add-ons is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Tools > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).

  • Don't make any changes on the Safe mode start window.

It is also possible that there is a problem with the files that store the passwords.

Rename the files key3.db and signons.sqlite in the Profile_Folder.

  • Help > Troubleshooting Information > Profile Directory: Open Containing Folder

You can add .old to the file names (key3.db.old and signons.sqlite.old) or move them to another folder to make it possible to undo the action.
You need to set a new Master Password after renaming or deleting key3.db and you lose all your currently saved passwords.
If that has worked then you can remove the no longer needed renamed files.

Safemode didn't help.

Deleting the two files did. Thanks!

I found that the "Constant Guard" plug-in from ComCast was the culprit.
