Go to Options>Applications>click on, in your case, Adobe Acrobat entries and select "Use Adobe Acrobat(in Firefox)" or as you wish.

Your suggestion helped me find out how to fix this Very frustrating problem with Firefox. I was ready to change over the Safari permanently. Firefox should know that there are a lot of sites that send you to a pdf for info. Also, I want to comment that when you said "options" I didn't know where to find it. I had to work to find out that it is "preferences" in the Firefox menu. But, now I can relax and keep my bookmarks on Firefox. Thank you for your help!
Happy to help. I have an Options icon on my Navigation Bar but the usual way is -
Menu Bar>Tools>Options , or Orange Firefox button>Option>Options.
