Won't save my tabs on exit, and I HAVE done everything on your "help" pages

Just "upgraded" (and I use the term loosely) to Firefox 5. It will not save my tabs on exit. I always, just get my home page. I have done all the "supposed" fixes that you suggest. Save tabs on exit is clicked in the options menu. It DOES NOT help to exit from the file menu and it does not load from history. Why do you mess with things that work? And royally mess them up?

Are you clearing your history when shutting down? In Options > Privacy, check the settings next to "Clear history when Firefox closes". If the history is cleared, then the tabs cannot be restored.

Another possibility is to use:

Firefox 4 and later versions save the previous session automatically, so there is no longer need for the dialog asking if you want to save the current session.
Use "File > Exit" or "Firefox > Exit" (Mac: "Firefox > Quit Firefox") if you want to restore multiple windows.
You can use "History > Restore Previous Session" to get the previous session at any time.
You may need to click the orange/gray Firefox button to see History.
There is also a "Restore Previous Session" button on the default about:home Home page.

I did that...just as I said in my original query...didn't help...it's still set up that way and my tabs are not coming back...

App (pinned) tabs and Tab Groups (Panorama) are stored as part of the session data [1] in the file sessionstore.js [2] in the Firefox profile folder [3].

Make sure that you do not use "Clear Recent History" to clear the "Browsing History" when Firefox is closed because that prevails and prevents Firefox from opening tabs from the previous session.

If you use cleanup software like CCleaner then make sure that Session is unchecked in the settings for the Firefox application.

Make sure that you do not run Firefox in permanent Private Browsing mode.

  • You enter Private Browsing mode if you select: Tools > Options > Privacy > History: Firefox will: "Never Remember History"
  • To see all History and Cookie settings, choose: Tools > Options > Privacy, choose the setting Firefox will: Use custom settings for history
  • Deselect: [ ] "Permanent Private Browsing mode"
