How do I get started with a home page most similar to old one?
I do not want the new Firefox to complicate my life. I want the new version to simulate the old version as closely as possible. And when the dust has settled I want to know how to simply start up and get to work.

Hi burrsage,
I'm not sure what exactly you are referring to, but I'll take a stab at it! First, I'd suggest that you try Update Firefox to the latest release. As of writing this, 10.2 is the current latest version.
If you are referring to the look and feel of Firefox itself, you should take a look at this article with common questions after upgrading. It will show you what's changed and how you can simulate the old experience.
If you are specifically talking abut your home page, you should try changing your home page to:
about:home
Type this in the address bar and hit enter. If you like it, you should make it your home page. If you don't know how to change the home page, you should take a look at the Knowledge Base article How to set the home page.
Hopefully this helps
Firefox 4+ versions use a new build-in home page named about:home with a Google search bar on it (no internet access needed to load that page).
That about:home page only shows some snippets and has a button to restore the previous session if applicable.
If you want a home page with extras like previous Firefox versions have then set another page as the home page like www.google.com as used in Firefox 3 versions or the iGoogle site ([www.google.com/ig]).
