When I click on Download Helper add on to download from e.g. YouTube, the Firefox pop up showing the list of current and finished downloads does not show the download in progress, it remains blank. The download works OK and, when it is finished, the little notification scrolls up and down on the bottom rh side of the screen as usual. However, I like to monitor downloads in progress using the Firefox Downloads pop up and it is now not showing them. I have v.19 installed with automatic updates. As far as I recall this has only started happening since the latest update.

I just discovered I have this problem as well. In a previous profile, which existed at the time of updating to FF 19, everything (at least as far as downloads are concerned) worked fine. Then, I found that Session manager is conflicting with some other addon (which I haven't been able to identify) preventing tab closing, so I built a new profile - and indeed, ongoing donloads are shown neither by the download window nor by download statusbar. Both indicate "no downloads ongoing".

I believe the six week upgrade cycle (highly unneccessary) is liable to leave stome addons behind. Would it not be more sensible to give developers more time to adjust to the changes constantly being made?

On the advice of the developer, I have installed the latest beta version of Download Helper addon and this has fixed the glitch. I have tested out the beta on various sites (YouTube etc) and it's all working fine.

Make sure that you do not run Firefox in (permanent) Private Browsing mode.

  • Tools > Options > Privacy: Use custom settings for history
  • Deselect: [ ] "Always use private browsing mode"

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance).

  • Do NOT click the Reset button on the Safe mode start window or otherwise make changes.

You'll find the beta version here:

http://www.downloadhelper.net/install-beta.php?version=4.9.14b1

Just click on the install icon, it will install like any other addon, no need to remove the version currently on your profile.

Hello. I am still having this problem. I downloaded the beta version of download helper and everything. Does anyone know what else might be causing this?

Hi Ultracomber, what version do you have? Version 4.9.14 is now available on the official page here: Video DownloadHelper.

If you recently installed Firefox 20, the download dialogs have changed and this might be raising a new issue. Downloads have been integrated into the Library dialog with the rest of your history. Within the browser, a green arrow should appear on your toolbar where you can view the status of your most recent downloads. You can find a complete write-up here: Where to find and manage downloaded files in Firefox.

If need to use the old Download Manager for compatibility with Video DownloadHelp (I have no idea; I don't use that extension) there is a way to revert back. See: Got new version, want to go back to previous download box.

Thanks jscher2000, I wasn't seeing the download arrow until I right-clicked on the toolbar, saw it and dragged it onto the toolbar. I gave it a spin and I actually kinda like it. Thanks again.
