I have both Firefox and Explorer (just got the former because it made it easier to listen to radio online). When I launch Firefox and use the search engine to access a website, (even if I put in a site I know I've been to before), it redirects me to some weird place. It's happened at least 3 times. But if I write down the URL and type it into the address bar, it will take me to the correct website.

If I launch explorer and do the same thing, I don't have this problem. So my question is a) how do I stop this from happening with Firefox and b) how do I prevent it from happening in the future?

Run Anti-malware programs. 1. Adwcleaner 2. Malwarebytes 3. Hitman pro. This might be trojan issue, especially if you use regular search engine like google / yahoo/ bing and not some weird one.

Which search engine is selected in the search bar on the Navigation Toolbar if that is the search bar that you use?

If it happens with the search bar on the about:home page then try to use the SearchReset extension to reset some preferences to their default values.

Note that the SearchReset extension only runs once and then uninstalls automatically, so it won't show on the "Firefox > Add-ons" page (about:addons).
