Internet cache loads 4 files -12.3MB whenever FF is started. They can be deleted but come back the same when FF is started
I am running XP with all updates. Each time I start Firefox the following files show up after I shut down even though under options I selected not to save anything after shut down. In addition when I open Spyware Blaster it shows 234 sites that have been disabled next to firefox and indicates that FF preferences have done so. I have run both quick and full Malwarebytes, Superantispyware, Hit man, Windows, Avast and ESSOT. All without result. I have reformatted the HD and reloaded XP and my other programs. But it was back to doing this within a day. Can anyone help - Thanks

does a new profile help?
hello, this is the expected behaviour. the 12 mb files are just the cache index files that get recreated by firefox automatically. please don't use external cleaners, since they can cause more harm than good, but use the built-in tools in firefox...
I used a new profile when I reloaded - so no it does not help.
Philipp - thanks that solved part of the problem -- however when I open Spyware Blaster it shows 234 sites that have been disabled next to firefox and indicates that FF preferences have done so still remains. None of these sites are anything I would visit. Any idea why FF is opening these sites from protection?
Hi dklab, is Spyware Blaster listing 234 cookies? Do you use any add-ons that create "opt out" cookies (they sometimes have names containing TACO)?
No I use few add ons and none use opt out cookies.
Can you post a more detailed description of the Spyware Blaster report? Maybe a screen shot? (If applicable: How do I create a screenshot of my problem?)
Here are the screen shot from Spyware blaster. I hope this helps
Thank you for the screen shots. It looks to me like Spyware Blaster has the feature to block (or remove?) cookies for a huge range of sites and somehow you've deselected (or not ever selected) 234 of them. If you want to block all of them, hopefully there's a convenient way to check the boxes, because clicking 234 times would kill a lot of time.
There is usually no need to use such programs to block cookies.
Current Firefox versions have a "From visited" setting for third-party cookies that you can use in case you visit websites that aren't working properly with third-party cookies disabled.
Otherwise you can choose Never in the setting for "Accept third-party cookies".
- Tools > Options > Privacy > Firefox will: "Use custom settings for history"
Thanks for your answers but my problem got worse this morning when I booted up my computer. All personal data has been removed from my computer - every file in my documents, all email plus profile in TB, all data input to all programs (every program when started presents as if this is my first time to start it) I have run several different anti virus and malware programs without any success. I am running a deep scan Recuva to see if I can recover any of my files. I do not understand what is going or what would cause it
I can't remember whether Windows XP had multiple user logins, but I think it did. It sounds as though somehow you got booted into a new Windows user profile. Hopefully you can get back to your previous user profile with your data.
exclude this file in ccleaner options
permissions.sqlite
full path in win7 is
C:\Users\username\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\tad3jraa.default\permissions.sqlite

Thanks my problem has been fixed. I recovered my files only problem is the names are gone and each file is numbered 1 to 200K. Something to do when I have time.
