Can't delete anything off the navigation bar. So I can't delete our searching for banks, email, etc...

We can't delete anything off the navigation bar. Not for sure. But it seems that today there is a "plug" icon on it. It says "Flash" when you hoover over it. --- We can't delete anything on it. This is important to us since we sometimes use bank accounts and emails. We like to delete them and clear them totally off. Today, if we delete anything. It will delete. But it actually stays there. WE know about the "Clear all history" and "Clear recent history". That works on the History part of it. But not on the navigation bar. So why did it change.

If mystery icons appear on your toolbars, that could indicate that a new extension got installed. If you don't recall installing any add-ons, it could have been bundled with another program you installed and not clearly disclosed.

Try visiting the Add-ons page and disabling everything that you do not know to be essential. Either:

  • Ctrl+Shift+a
  • orange Firefox button (or Tools menu) > Add-ons

In the left column, click Plugins and set the ones you don't expect to use today to "Never Activate". Basically, the most essential one is "Shockwave Flash".

Next, in the left column, click Extensions. If in doubt, disable.

Usually a link will appear above at least one disabled extension to restart Firefox. You can complete your work on the tab and click one of the links as the last step.

Does that change the toolbar or clear up any other odd behaviors?

If you would like specific comments on your extensions, you can extract a list of them from the Troubleshooting page. Either:

  • Help > Troubleshooting Information
  • Type or paste about:support in the address bar and press Enter

In the upper left corner, look for the Copy text to clipboard button. When you paste into a reply, you can delete the lower part of the text starting from Important Modified Preferences.
