I updated my firefox, which had been running very slow, and the new update is full of bugs, some of which altered stored pdf files. I have had to remove all firefox from my windows 7 computer. I've cleaned and cleaned my computer of bugs using super anti spyware. it's never been cleaner. but still cannot find a clean download of firefox so I've abandoned it. too bad because up to a few months ago it was my favorite.

You can download Firefox from https://www.mozilla.org

If you were unable to find this I don't want to know what browser you're using now.

Try this:

It is possible that your security software (firewall, anti-virus) blocks or restricts Firefox or the plugin-container process without informing you, possibly after detecting changes (update) to the Firefox program.

Remove all rules for Firefox and the plugin-container from the permissions list in the firewall and let your firewall ask again for permission to get full, unrestricted, access to internet for Firefox and the plugin-container process and the updater process.

See:

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem.

  • Switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance
  • Do NOT click the Reset button on the Safe Mode start window

Create a new profile as a test to check if your current profile is causing the problem.

See "Creating a profile":

If the new profile works then you can transfer files from a previously used profile to the new profile, but be cautious not to copy corrupted files to avoid carrying over problems.

This is only supposed to happen if you do not have another PDF handler set in Windows. Seems the installer is making an error in your case.

To restore your preferred PDF opener, try the "Open With" solution in this thread: https://support.mozilla.org/questions/1012877
