I have some address books with a lot of names. I used to be able to open the Contact sidebar, then click within an address book, type a letter, and it would take me to the first entry in the address book beginning with that name. For example, if clicked within the address book list of names, and typed "B" it would take me to "Baker" if Baker was the first name in the address book beginning with a "B" It will no longer do that. Now, I have to scroll through all of the "A" names until I get to the "B" names. How can I enable that again? I'm using Windows 11. This has worked the same way for years and years and now has stopped. Help!

I love Mozilla Thunderbird and after years away came back and still love it over Outlook. However, I do use iOS and was disappointed to see no version. Yes, I have donated and wondered, what would it take to have a seperate donation option to allow funding towards an iOS version, not just Android? I would rather help donate towards getting that done than have to use outlook on my iOS device and Thunderbird everywhere else. Would the developers and community get behind this? If everyone interested could donate even only $5 a month for a set time (maybe 12 months) to see it happen, I would jump on board. What is the possibility of somehow making this happen. Hopefully enough iOS users getting on board would make this viable.
Can we make this a 2025 goal for all iOS users?

I've wanted to change settings pages background in my Thunderbird themes. I've checked that they're defined by --in-content-page-background: var(--background-color-canvas); variable. Manipulating it in developer tools works, but when I try to change it in my theme source files it doesn't work. I've tried declaring value for both --in-content-page-background and --background-color-canvas as well as overwriting it by my own variable for :root, :host and even *, of course using !important parameter. :(

1) The plugin lets you make filters for all mailboxes and folders, or for any selection of them, rather than for just a single folder/mailbox. Some things I filter for may arrive in any of several mailboxes, depending on the address I used, and it's a drag to create the same filter for each of them.
2) The plugin lets you search in specific mailboxes or folders, or for any selection of them, without having to wade through masses of irrelevant results from other folders.
3) The plugin shows you, in search results, what folder each email is in. Currently, when I do a search, each folder containing any results is on the list showing how many results it contains, and if I click on it I can see those results, but that's not the same - and it goes away when the results are shown as a list.

I usually run Thunderbird in a sized window to manage my screen real estate, using the classic layout and showing four messages in the folder pane. The problem is that when I maximize the Thunderbird window, the message pane stays at the height I set for the smaller size window. Is there a way to make the size of the message pane be a percentage of the available space, or at least lock the height of the message pane to the height I set for the folder pane?

For many months I had this working. "sendto" used my selected Thunderbird account to send the email. After resetting my windows 11 system I lost the settings to make it work. The emails go to Outlook now. I have followed all the instructions I can find online but cannot fix the problem. For example, I out a link to Thunderbird in the sendto folder. If I click on that, Thunderbird's main screen opens instead of the email dialog.

Following a switch off and restart triggered I think by a Windows update, Thunderbird is not displaying any messages in my Inbox, though it is showing the number of messages in the Inbox title bar. 'Drafts' and 'Sent' all display correctly, but the 'Inbox' is blank with a grey icon of an envelope and the statement: "No message found". I am an IT novice. I looked on the 'help' pages. I have checked that no filters are set. I have right-clicked on the 'Inbox' title to display the menu with 'properties' at the bottom. I have clicked on that to bring up the dialog box with the "Repair" icon. It shows 'Inbox' in the 'Name' box but I note that the 'Location' box is blank. Presumably it should not be. Presumably it should show either the location of locally stored messages on my hard drive, or the location of the messages on the email server. I am not sure which. I have found the directory on my hard drive where I believe the messages are stored locally. The size of the file suggests to me that they are all there. The periodic 'Checking for new messages' is happening, but nothing is displaying, though a check via webmail shows that new messages are arriving on the server. As of this morning, links in emails across accounts in Thunderbird do not open in a browser on my system. I can right click/copy and paste into a browser, but the linking between apps seems to be broken.
I have followed the document above, tried different default browsers, and restarted Thunderbird numerous times. I have also started Thunderbird in troubleshooting mode (hold shift at start) with no change in behavior.
No system config changes last night leading up to this new behavior.
Please advise.

I’ve got a minor but annoying Quick Filter button issue which just cropped up today out of nowhere, and haven’t been able to find an exact match for all these symptoms in any other problem reports.
Toggling my Quick Filter button works as expected, picking up the individual active filter buttons. However, in some instances of launching TB its on/off status indicator always displays as active regardless of individual filter button status. Weirder still, in other cases it always displays as inactive. It’s an intermittent problem, which always persists in one way or the other.
Further details:
- Problem is also present in safe mode, with the single plugin I use (CardBook) disabled.
- General display settings are “Theme Simple” and “Variant Normal” (not “Dark”).
- There are no automatic filters configured in “Tools > Message Filters”.
- Individual filter buttons are all working properly, including correct status indicators.
- Running current TB version (128.7.0esr 64-bit) on Windows 10 with all OS patches up to date.
An example:
Image 1: “Show only unread messages” button is active, and the Quick Filter button also displays as such (both indicators are correct).
Image 2: All individual filter buttons are inactive, yet the Quick Filter button still indicates a filter is active.

I have been a Thunderbird user forever. LOVE it !!! I used to have 2 email accounts underneath Thunderbird: TWC mail and Gmail. Every account worked great sending/receiving up until Feb 12. Then my TWC mail stopped replicating. Gmail account still works. Called TWC and was informed that I had to update my Master Password for my Spectrum Account. Worked with Tech Support to get me all re-established. Went into Thunderbird and still couldn't replicate. Found an answer dated 1/26/25 by teknikal at 10:44 on this Forum which sounded like exactly my problem. Called Spectrum every day trying to find the Server Engineer who could help me reset my password to no avail. Then i investigated updating my new password in the saved password of the account setting. There was only a saved password for TWC for SMTP which I updated and was able to successfully send and email from TWC to Gmail under Thunderbird. But I still can not receive emails and there is NO saved password for IMAP. So I did further reading and found my only alternative was to delete TWC from Thunderbird and re-add the account. Which I tried to do. But the configuration that replicated was mobile.charter.net which I manually changed to mail.twc.com but Thunderbird keeps telling me it can't find the server. I just got off the phone with Spectrum and my config is accurate: smtp mail.twc.com 587 starttls normal password chrismcm@twcny.rr.com imap mail.twc.com 993 starttls normal password chrismcm@twcny.rr.com Why isn't Thunderbird configuring my mail server so that I can send and receive emails ??? And now have I lost all my mail and folders since I deleted my account only to re-add it ??? I'm ready for the looney bin because I have been at this for DAYS !!! Please HELP !!! Thank you.

Suddenly this morning, I can't send an email through Thunderbird, but I can through my email service provider's platform. No settings have been changed and I have the most up to date version.
I get this message:
"Sending of the message failed. The message could not be sent because connecting to Outgoing server (SMTP) (my account) failed. The server may be unavailable or is refusing SMTP connections. Please verify that your Outgoing server (SMTP) settings are correct and try again."
I am not at all tech savvy with this type of thing, so I need step by step, easy instructions, please. Thank you!

I've got email running fine, but is it possible to open a reading pane to review new emails before opening them, please? It'd be useful to identify scammers without opening an item. GMail doesn't have a reading pane, but Classic Outlook does.

I am new to Thunderbird. I have gotten fed up with Kmail in KDE for Linux, it is basically useless since it does not allow any of the modern login protocols required by MS and Google.
One thing Kmail did do, was start in the background so it was always periodically checking for mail and indicating new messages in the icon and notification in the desktop toolbar. So you didn't have to have it running in the foreground as a running application.
How can you do that with Thunderbird? I tried an experiment by closing Thunderbird down and sending emails to accounts I have setup but no notifications appeared until I restarted the app in the foreground.
