"Bookmark This Page" goes blank - doesn't bring up the popup form to fill in with Bookmark data for the page I want to bookmark.

I use it every day. I click on bookmarks and the drop-down menu shows - I click on BOOKMARK THIS PAGE - and it goes blank - the drop-down menu disappears correctly but the popup doesn't come up with the form to fill out the bookmark name and location I want for it. This has been happening occasionally for awhile. Maybe a few months I don't know. I have no idea why it starts and stops working on its own. How can I fix this?

Chosen solution

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem.

  • Switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance
  • Do NOT click the Reset button on the Safe Mode start window

You can check for problems with the places.sqlite database file (bookmarks, history) in the Firefox profile folder.

On the page you want to bookmark, do a right click in an empty area of the page. At the top of the menu, press the Star. Hot key; <Control> (Mac: <Command>) D.

Or, Press the bookmarks Star on the toolbar.

This will place a bookmark in the Unsorted Bookmarks Folder. To edit or move that bookmark, press the Star again.

A window will come up with the name of the page and its web address. You can edit these entries.

Next, select what bookmarks folder you want this bookmark in. If you do not see that folder, go to the far right of the Folder line, and press the down arrow. You can also create a new folder.

I hit the star but it didn't put it in the unsorted bookmarks - perhaps there is a limit on the quantity of bookmarks allowed? I haven't gone through them much at all.

I was just looking at that "places.sqlite" thing on some other old post when I decided to reboot since going there took me off firefox and (since I just removed an addon for AdwarePlus for a palemoon loss of graphics/imaging problem.)

Anyhow, I did what you said with the download of addon "Places Maintenance" and I did 3 of the items and tested it and it worked. I have a feeling it was "removing the expired pages" that were bookmarked that needed to be done. Yeah. Thank YOU!

I would have never found it via an Add-on search (had I been able to hang in there and strain my brain enough to even look around there.) You rock!
