Thunderbird does't get past "connected to mail.xxxxxx.net"

Their website specifies port 110 for incoming mail
Port 110 typically indicates no security, i.e. no usage of SSL/TLS to secure the connection to the server. Regardless of any issues Morris may have with their certificate, you need to check with them what the correct server settings are.
If things have worked for 4 years before, something must have changed at their end.

I checked all settings with no joy. I tried another email client and was presented with a warning saying the domain credentials weren't valid. It indicated the server was *.b.hostedmail.com instead of my normaldomain.net.

There are 4 accounts (account2, account3, account4, account6). I suppose they all have the problem? Did this ever work with the settings above?
I'd also assume morrisbb.net is your domain? Who is your hosting provider?
INCOMING: account2, , (pop3) mail.morrisbb.net:110, SSL, passwordCleartext
You need to check with your provider about the correct server settings, including the correct server name.
In any case, assuming your provider uses SSL/TLS, port 110 is wrong. POP in connection with SSL/TLS would be port 995. This must be changed in your Account Settings.
These settings have worked for around 4 years. Their main website is morrisbroadband.com, the email main site is morrisbb.net. Morris broadband has their own servers as far as I know. Their website specifies port 110 for incoming mail and port 587 for outgoing. If I change to port 995 and attempt to check mail Thunderbird warns me that I am being asked to override settings that a legitimate site would not do. I then cancel the operation.
Modified
The issue here is Morris do not have the appropriate SSL certificate for using secure connection. So your warned that the certificate they are using is rubbish for the purpose it is being used.
Either get then to use he correc t certificate. Create an exception and allow the use of the incorrect certificate permanently or Simply don't use SSL/TLS for your connection.
The DNS report I just did on Morris indicated serious security issues elsewhere as well. See here So I suggest just don't use SSL or secure connection to their mail server and don't use their DNS servers either.
