After I applied the new update - Thunderbird completely changed.

1) I can no longer view my inbox unless I open a separate tab. 2) I can no longer create new messages. 3) I can no longer check to see which version of Thunderbird I am using - or see if there is an update 4) Thunderbird keeps running in the background when I exit it, so when I click on it to re-open it... nothing happens.
