Firefox began freezing some time ago but was random. Now it hangs repeatedly. I did an uninstall and clean install and Firefox opens and runs correctly. If I close the program, and try to reopen, sometimes it opens but won't connect to anything, or it won't open at all.

If I rerun the setup program. the pattern repeats. it works the first time open, but fails the next time.

I have verified Firefox actually closed using the Windows Task Manager. When it fails to open, it does show an error in the Windows event log

That seems to have fixed the problem. I had previously uninstalled and installed using the file from the download on the main site which gave the

Do a malware check with several malware scanning programs on the Windows computer.

Please scan with all programs because each program detects different malware. All these programs have free versions.

Make sure that you update each program to get the latest version of their databases before doing a scan.

You can also do a check for a rootkit infection with TDSSKiller.
