Here's the deal. I wanted to get back my 'Most Visited' bookmark, so I followed this page's instructions:

https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/restore-default-smart-bookmarks-folders?redirectlocale=en-US&redirectslug=Restore+the+default+Smart+Bookmarks+Folders

After that I successfully got my bookmark back, but after every time I would quit out of Firefox all my bookmarks in my toolbar would disappear. Even after I put back my bookmarks on the toolbar they would keep disappearing. I'm starting to wonder if setting "browser.places.smartBookmarksVersion" to 0 will always reset the toolbar. Anyone know why this keeps happening? Thanks.

Having more than one version of a program may cause issues. You must remove the older programs. Then get the current full installer.

Flash: Grab the uninstaller from here: Uninstall Flash Player | Windows Uninstall Flash Player | Mac

Then reinstall the latest version.

Note: Windows users should download the active_x for Internet Explorer. and the plugin for Plugin-based browsers (like Firefox).

Note: Windows 8 and Windows 10 have built-in flash players and Adobe will cause a conflict. Install the plugin only. Not the active_x.

Flash Player Version: 22.0.0.192 Flash Player (Linux) Version 11.2.202.626

You can check for problems with preferences.

Delete possible user.js and numbered prefs-##.js files and rename/remove the prefs.js file to reset all prefs to the default value including prefs set via user.js and prefs that are no longer supported in current Firefox releases.

Try to rename/remove the xulstore.json file in the Firefox profile folder.

You can use this button to go to the current Firefox profile folder:

Make sure toolbars like the "Bookmarks Toolbar" are visible.

  • "3-bar" menu button > Customize > Show/Hide Toolbars
  • View > Toolbars
You can tap the Alt key or press F10 to show the Menu Bar
  • Right-click empty toolbar area

Open the Customize window and set which toolbar items to display.

  • "3-bar" menu button > Customize
  • check that "Bookmarks Toolbar Items" is on the Bookmarks Toolbar
  • if "Bookmarks Toolbar Items" is not on the Bookmarks Toolbar then drag it back from the Customize palette to the Customize window to the Bookmarks Toolbar
  • if missing items are in the Customize palette then drag them back from the Customize window to the toolbar
  • if you do not see an item on a toolbar and in the Customize palette then click the Restore Defaults button in the Customize palette window to restore the default toolbar set.
