installed thunderbird from mozilla site English US some of the menus in English some in German uninstalled and re-installed 6 times still german
downloaded and installed thunderbird from Mozilla site selected English US...program installed and now I have the top menus in English and the side and bottom menus in German. Tried un-installing and re-installing 6 times still get German. Brand new HP Envy computer with windows 10

wait I went back in and it was under extensions I removed the extension and all the German and calendar stuff is gone ...just basic email that's all now....will go to English version for Calendar and hope for the best.. Don't know where the German came from.....But ......THANK YOU. THANK YOU SO MUCH .. Again why doesn't Mozilla provide any clear instructions for all this?

Side? Bottom? menu
Folder panes on the left "should" be in the language of the mail server, although local folders will be localized. In your case to EN.
Perhaps you could post a screen shot of what you are seeing.

I got that the first time. I have a menu on the top. None on the left and none on the bottom. Hence my request for an image showing what you see.
At this point I do not even understand the question.
Here's a screen shot, menus on the right in German and on the bottom and everything else in English, I think I some how got a German version when I first installed it ...as per other advice I uninstalled it and went to Mozilla site and re-installed ( 6 times) with the correct English US version. I am in the US Northeast area I am not German ( US English) ...Something here is stuck in German ( settings, profile ??) and I can't get rid of it very annoying, however I can still get my emails as you can see.. Did I mention brand new HP Envy and windows 10.. couldn't get windows live mail and window 10 no provision for Contacts ( windows 10 email is junk) found Thunderbird decided to give it a try so all new installs
On the toolbar 
then 
Locate and remove the lightning calendar add-on.
Restart Thunderbird Reinstall lightning.
All the German is inserted by the add-on. So what is "stuck" is the lightning version.
If that does not work. remove lightning. and download it from here https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/thunderbird/addon/lightning/ which explicitly inserts the EN_US in the page so you get the EN_US version
Then install the downloaded XPI file using the instructions from here. https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/installing-addon-thunderbird#w_a-slightly-less-ideal-case

Because I am too busy answering questions here to write how to articles with pictures. People need pictures, as I did here.
