I have groups in my email address book but I need to send a copy of these groups to other people. What is the procedure for this?

Thank you so much for this response. Popped up just like magic! It will take me a while to delete the names I don't need but I can weed out a few unnecessary addresses while I'm at it!

Who are you giving them to? Other Thunderbird users?

The MoreFunctionsForAddressBook add-on allows you to export Mailing Lists, but the .tha files it produces will only be useful to other Thunderbird users, and who will also need to use this add-on.

Another approach would be to copy each of your Mailing Lists to its own temporary address book, then export each of the new temporary address books out to its own CSV file. These should be suitable for import into a wide range of other programs and can be sent as email attachments, provided they are not of excessive size. If you're sending to other Thunderbird users, the LDIF file format gives the cleanest and simplest transfer.

It may be possible just to select a Mailing List to show its member Contacts in the right-hand pane, then select all of these (ctrl+a) and use the add-on to export the collected Contacts to a CSV file.

And yet another approach would be to use the add-on to export the members of each Mailing List to a vCard format or .vcf file. This is also likely to be useful to a wide range of other programs.

You do need to check what format will be useful to those you're sending these to.

While I agree the MFFAB add-on is valuable, it's not needed to export an address book or mailing list to a csv file (or LDIF or txt or vcf file). Just select the list in the directory pane of Address Book, then Tools/Export..., choose Save as type... You may want to edit the csv in a spreadsheet and remove unnecessary fields before you send it to others.
