Why does my gmail label list on the left side of the screen no longer scroll up and down?

In the recent past, the gmail label list on the left side of the screen in Firefox would freely scroll up and down when I would drag and drop emails into the labeled folders that weren't visible in the list--that were just below or above what could be seen on the screen.

Suddenly one day the list simply stopped automatically scrolling when I would try to drag an email to a labeled folder just off the screen at the top or bottom. I can still put my cursor over the list and move it up or down to reveal the hidden folders, but this is an extra irritating step to have to do when I want to deposit emails in those folders because I have to move the list first and then go to the email and drag and drop into the newly revealed folder.

As it turns out, in other search engines the gmail labeled folders' list still scrolls automatically, so this clearly is a peculiarity to Firefox only.

Maybe a setting was toggled that made the list not scroll as it did before, but if so I haven't been able to locate it and switch it so the list scrolls as it used to. So, how might I fix this problem, as I so enjoy Firefox's features compared with other browsers that I'd like to keep using it as my sole browser.

Thanks for your guidance with this problem.
