All of a sudden Thunderbird is displaying emails as a thread & I can't change it.

I' ve used Thunderbird for more years than I can remember. I don't like my emails to be threaded. All of a sudden T'bird is doing that and I can't find any way to change it back. I'm missing some responses because they are lost in the thread.

You can also click on the thread icon at the head of the thread column to toggle between threaded and unthreaded views. The attached image shows the button to click. The actual presentation and icons used will vary with OS and Theme. This is on Linux with Phoenity Shredder.
