Does the Password Manager have any problem on other websites? Are there other passwords recorded?

Please provide a public link (no password) that we can check out. No Personal Information Please !

FredMcD - Cannot use "Password Editor" with my version of Firefox - just want an editor that keeps track of my login/password - no fancy fill in the blanks - no master password - just list my urls with login and password - identical to the one under Privacy and Security - in Firefox - EXCEPT - this version of Firefox (or any other that I know of) will not let me MANUALLY add a url along with login/password. Probably 90% of the time - a drop down will show up asking me if I want to save the login/password. HOWEVER - sometimes it doesn't (why?); for the urls not in my "saved login" list - please allow me to MANUALLY add urls/login/password one at a time.

There used to be password add-ons that did things like that, But they do not work on Quantum Firefox.

Warning: There are some web pages that do not allow browsers to record or fill in the log-in information.

But if you go to the Mozilla Add-ons Web Page {web Link} you can try a Form Filling add-on.

Quantum Firefox - should allow a MANUAL adding of urls/logins/passwords would be an easy fix - "Add url/login/password" yes/no ??" - Or - if problem with browser and url conflict - provide a place to store the information without an auto boot to the url - a sort of manual Rolodex - Will keep looking - but would think the Mozilla folks could come up with a "fix" - just a simple one - nothing fancy - thanks

Absolutely!

There _should_ be an option in the saved logins screen to "manually" add a login for the current page.

If not that, add a CSV or Text File import option.

This is _extremely_ frustrating as all of the pieces are already in place to be able to do this, _except_ the ability to edit the url field. The ability to edit the user id and password for any entry is already there!

If that were possible, the user could take a no longer used login entry and change the url, id and pw fields.

You can edit logins.json and expand this file with an extra username and password record. You could do a copy and paste of an existing login record and modify the values of all fields to match the website you want to add. Add the new record after the last record with a comma to separate the new record. Use the nextId field at the start of the file for the 'id' field and increase the value of the nextId. You need to modify the guid field to make it unique. Not all fields might be obvious and would have to know how to use the Inspector to get the field names of username and password field and hostname and possible formSubmitURL fields. Once the new record has been added, you can open the Password Manager and double-click username and password fields to edit the values for that new website. This could work in principle, but you need to be cautious not to break the JSON format. You can open logins.json in a tab and use the builtin JSON viewer to get a better understanding of the file and verify your edits afterwards.

Yep... while I understand the tech aspects of editing these files, I still manage to break them every once in a while ;-)

The bigger point is that the overwhelming majority of Mozilla users don't have these skills but they _should_ have the ability to safely make additions since so many websites are now using code that prevents triggering the Mozilla Login Saving process.

FWIW, everyone should know that if you manage to store a login for one of these sites, you _can_ rightclick the login fields to manually pick and fill in the login fields.

As you mentioned, you can doubleclick the id and password fields to edit them, and you can also rightclick the entry to edit or copy any of the fields except the url field.

No argument here, that should be included in Firefox - manual addition of login data.

That has never been in Firefox; although a Legacy extension was available for many years. But the number of websites that didn't allow or blocked the saving of login has decreased and I used the extension Password Editor far fewer times in recent years than when that extension first came out. That's there, but it doesn't allow editing the url... I did use that option to copy a url when I found a login that was no longer in use.

fwiw, I tried the approach of editing an unused entry in the logins.json file and replacing the two url's in that entry with the url of the login page that I wanted to create a login record for.

For the record, I did make backup copies, and I made sure that the json file was replaced with the edited version only after mozilla was shutdown.

Didn't work... the while json file still functions with all of the existing entries, searches for the new url or parts of the new url do not come up with the edited entry.

Searches for the old url that I replaced with the new url didn't come up either which would indicate to me that there is probably a validation hash somewhere in the entry that was made invalid by changing the url.

Is there possibly a related file such as an index file that needs to be removed to force a reindexing?

I want to use "saved logins" facility to store a password - for a password saver app (will not write name) that does not allow such saving?

Is this possible for someone such as me?
