TB Mail Merge didn't add firstnames to the body of my email

I've used TB Mail Merge before and I was impressed so I was very surprised today when I discovered that Mail Merge had not inserted addressees' first names into the body of the email. I typed "Dear {{firstname}}" and the sent emails all had "Dear (completely blank space)". I've searched online and found no evidence that TB Mail Merge has changed the code from {{ }} to something else. I'm using a specific Address Book as the source of addressees, with TB 60.8.0 and Mail Merge 5.6.0 on Windows 7. I hope you can help.

re: I typed "Dear {{firstname}}"

I'm using this: Dear {{FirstName}} {{LastName}} Capital Letters for F and N and no space. Address Book is a specific address book in Thunderbird.
