when a PDF (may be other file types es well) is downloaded and the download button (arrow pointing down on a dash) is clicked the firefox halts stops responding. After several minutes the downloads are listed and it starts responding.

Start Firefox in Safe Mode {web link}

A small dialog should appear. Click Start In Safe Mode (not Refresh). Is the problem still there?
