Importing Bookmarks

more options

Can anyone out there help me, I’ve exported my FireFox Bookmarks onto an external hard drive and then copied them back onto the desktop and from there tried to import them back into FireFox.

All the subfolders have imported back into FireFox no problem, but for some reason it has not done so with any bookmarks which appear under the Other Bookmarks listing, is there something I'm doing wrong? The version of FireFox I’m using is FireFox Quantum 6.9.0.3 (64 bit) with Windows 10.

Hi c.barchus, if you go ahead and open the bookmarks.html file (or whatever it's called) in a Firefox tab and use Find (Ctrl+f) to skip down to

Other Bookmarks

are there any bookmarks listed below it?

If the Other Bookmarks are present in your file but nowhere to be found after import, I wonder if they ended up in an odd location. If you try to find one of the missing bookmarks by typing part of the title and/or URL in the address bar, does it come up?

If you can load one of the bookmarked pages, click the star icon in the address bar, then expand the folder list by clicking the little triangle to the right of the folder popup, and Firefox should highlight the current location of that bookmark in the folder list box.

Hello jscher 2000

Thank you for your help,

If I open FireFox in the normal way and then click Bookmarks I’m presented with a drop down list saying Show All Bookmarks, Bookmark This Page, Bookmarks Toolbar, Other Bookmarks.

If I then point to Other Bookmarks there is nothing shown in its menu list, so in answer to your question no there aren’t any listed.

What I’m having to do at the moment is because I still have the exported Bookmark html on my desktop is go into it and select one of the bookmarks which appears under the listing of Other Bookmarks, copy and paste it into the FireFox URL box and when the site page opens save it as Other Bookmarks, in other words I’m having to copy and paste each and every one of them piecemeal.

Its strange because all the Bookmarks which are in folders have copied back into FireFox with no problem.

There are three ways to search for bookmarks. Do any of them show a bookmark from the Other category? Unfortunately, they don't show where in the menu it is currently saved, but my question is where it is somewhere (somewhere TBD) or nowhere, when you try to find it using search.

(1) Address bar

As you type part of the title or URL, a match should be suggested that has a star icon.

(2) Sidebar (Ctrl+b)

There's a search box above the list.

(3) Library (Ctrl+Shift+b)

There a search box at the upper right.

Can someone tell me how I place bookmarks imported from Chrome on the bookmark menu/line?

@ graverholt

You can look for a folder named "Imported From Google Chrome" (not sure about the name) at the bottom of the Bookmarks Menu folder and do a Copy/Paste with the bookmarks in this folder to where you want them appear.

I think it makes more sense to continue in your new thread:
