Can you attach a screenshot of the problem? I would like to see the url bar as well of a page that's effected.

Normally you wouldn't use the esc key to close a page. There needs to be more context if you want an answer.

You may have accidentally zoomed web page(s). Reset the page zoom on pages that cause problems.

  • View -> Zoom -> Reset (Ctrl+0/Command+0 (zero))

Firefox 73+ comes with a Zoom section in Options/Preferences to set the default zoom level for web pages.

  • Options/Preferences -> General -> Language and Appearance -> Zoom
