Hi Everyone,

We are in the middle of deploying Firefox ESR 68.11 (32-bit) on Windows 10 1903. The deployment is sucessfull so the application is installed correctly. but when we launch from desktop of menu shortcut, it crashes every time with: Sorry, we're having trouble having your page back. (see image attach).

Re-installing does not change anything...

I tried deleting the User profile registry entries and the %Localappdata%\Mozilla folder without any success. the message in the Event viewer is: Log Name: Application Source: Application Hang Date: 21/08/2020 11:14:34 AM Event ID: 1002 Task Category: (101) Level: Error Keywords: Classic User: N/A Computer: Description: The program firefox.exe version 68.11.0.7506 stopped interacting with Windows and was closed. To see if more information about the problem is available, check the problem history in the Security and Maintenance control panel.

Process ID: 161c
Start Time: 01d677cdbc164f4d
Termination Time: 12
Application Path: C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox\firefox.exe
Report Id: e9bf01c2-5c2e-4411-8032-69b19beb1105
Faulting package full name:
Faulting package-relative application ID:
Hang type: Unknown

Also when it crash, task manager is showing two different entry (see image attached), one says not responding?

No sure what to do next?

Thanks for any help

Chosen solution

I wanted to say that we found the issue with the 32 bit version, there is a conflict with devicelock, not sure exactly what part but we just disabled devicelock and it started working. Thanks

the 64 bit version works but we need the 32 bit version.

Running the application in Firefox Safe Mode does not do anything better the application crash at startup also.

I would suggest you open a bug at bugzilla.mozilla.org for this so someone can help diagnose the problem.

Did previous versions work?

Can you post a screenshot of the crash?

First, thanks for responding, much appreciated. Yes previous version worked, now it just sit there do nothing for hours... It`s stays at not responding (see image attached)

That's really odd. I don't know of any changes in the 32 bit version that would have caused that.

Does the 32 bit version of Firefox 78 ESR work?

more options

I have tried ESR version 78 32 bit with same results.

OK, there's definitely something strange going on here.

If you are willing to try, there is a program called mozregression that will help us track down what broke things:

https://mozilla.github.io/mozregression/install.html

Make sure to select 32 bit to verify the problem.

You can say "check versions between 68 and 78" and it will tell us the exact patch that broke things.

You mention the profile in "AppData\Local". Did you look at the main profile in "AppData\Roaming" as well ?

Did you try a new profile for the 32 bit version ?

You can create a new profile as a quick test to see if your current profile is causing the problem.

See "Creating a profile":

If the new profile works then you can transfer files from a previously used profile to the new profile, but be cautious not to copy corrupted files to avoid carrying over problems.

Cor-el, thanks for the suggestions, unfortunately it did not worked, I tried deleting all profiles creating a new one with same results. I will run what Mike Kaply suggested the mozregression and will post back the results.

Also noticed there is a new version 68.12 ESR, I`ll give it a try.

Did you try Windows Safe Mode in case there is a problem with a driver or service ?

I tried the latest version 68.12 ESR 32 (no success),tried safe mode, new firefox profile, new user profiles, run as admin? Nothing as work so far for us except installing 64 bit version, and I even have one machine that has the same issue with 64 bit version... Wondering if it's trying to get to a web site at startup and then being blocked by proxy or firewall??? I shooting in multiple direction here... I also ran processmon on this could not find anything interesting.

Were you able to try mozregression?

more options

I tried it but I could not get it to work, then it was flagged by our security group and I had to uninstall it.

I've gone through the changes to see if I can figure out what broke things, but I'm not having any luck.

Would it be possible for us to setup a screenshare next week and then I can try to see if I can figure ou twhat is happening? You can send me a private message here:

Good morning, we are still having the same issues, as previously mentioned, the only solution we found was to uninstall 32 it and re-install 64 bit version of Firefox, we have tried all 32 bit version ESR, non ESR, SAfe-mode, new profile... I have stop the deployment of Firefox since this new release. Still have no idea why it just stop at launch time, it launch but as soon as you click anywhere on the browser screen, it goes in not responding mode until you kill the process. Not sure if anyone else as any idea, but it would be welcome. Thanks

That's great to hear. What's devicelock? Is it some software?

more options

Devicelock is an application used for Data Loss protection: https://www.devicelock.com/. Thanks

This is an interesting comment on an older version of their software:

https://www.devicelock.com/news/devicelock-dlp-suite-83-just-updated-26nov.html

DeviceLock: Fixed compatibility issues with third-party software on 32-bit platforms: Mozilla Firefox 70.

So clearly they've had problems in the past.
