Select email above when deleting email

Hello,

I have my inbox in Thunderbird sorted in descending order by date. When I delete an email the whole list "shifts up" and the newly focused/selected email is the email that took the place of the delete email.

What I would like to know how to do (if it is possible) is how to configure Thunderbird so that when I delete an email, the email above the deleted email becomes the newly selected email.

For example, if I have a list of 3 emails and email B is selected:

A B <-- C

After deleting B, I would like A to be selected instead of C.

Is this possible to do? Ideally the solution would still allow me to sort my emails in descending order by date.

Thanks,

OS: Manjaro Linux TB Version: 78.5.1

I had the same issue and found this solution but it only half works. I have multiple email accounts and when I access them individually this solution works fine, but when I access them using "Unified Folders" then it doesn't work. Is there a way of having unified folders honour the mail.delete_matches_sort_order setting?
