Thunderbird quit working with gmail when using version 78

About 2 months ago, thunderbird on my laptop and desktop quit working with gmail, mail in and out. Don't remember but I think version was 78.6. I managed to download version 68 and entered updates to manual to keep tb from loading 78 automatically. I am running windows 10. I dont want to loose any of my folders. Been using tb for over 10 yrs and this is first big problem I've had. What to do? nobody seems to know how to solve this problem

well without access to error information all that is left is guesses. I will make the obvious one. the firewall component of your anti virus/ internet security suite needed updating. Does it still I have no idea.
