When I type the text of an e-mail, at the end of a sentence, I type a period and two spaces. When the recipient gets the e-mail, instead of the period and the two spaces, he sees different symbols, such as an upside down question mark, or 1/2. If the recipient types a reply above my original text, the symbols also appear in the text of my original e-mail. What is causing this, and how can I correct it? Thank you.

Yes. The underlying account is a yahoo account, because my ISP is AT&T. I had this problem on my old computer when using Thunderbird, but there was a solution. I can't remember what it was.

The solution is given in the link I provided. Config. editor in TB 78 is under Options/General/Indexing.
