A number of my tabs will not load at all, and when I tap on them enough to try to load other options, the entire app crashes

I have an Iphone 11 Pro with iOS version 16.5.1, and I have been having some problems with the Firefox app. I have a number of tabs on my browser, with some of them being very old. I was trying to clear some of them up and I noticed that a good portion of them will not load. Even though I can see their titles in the tab, when I select them, only a blank white page loads up, not even with a URL bar, so I am unable to reload the site. When I try to tap on the tab for longer than a few seconds to bring up additional options, the whole app crashes.

What can be done about this?

Hi

I am sorry to hear that Firefox for iOS is crashing. I hope that we can help resolve this for you. Before following the steps below, please make sure that you have updated both your iOS device and Firefox for iOS to the latest versions available.

As a first step, close down many of the tabs that you have open to as few as possible. Does this help reduce the incidence of a crash?

If this does not resolve the issue, open the iOS Settings app, select General then iPhone Storage. Find Firefox and select Offload App. Does this help?

Failing that, we will need to look into this in more detail with some logs from inside your copy of Firefox for iOS. This article will walk you through getting both crash logs and Firefox logs. When you have them, please file them here (a GitHub account is required) so that our developers can look into this further for you.

I hope that this helps.

Hello Paul. Sadly the problem got worse. I removed some tabs, offloaded the app, then tried to select one of the troublesome tabs, and the app crashed again. Sadly, it did not restore my tabs as previously, because I think I accidentally selected "No" to the prompt "Restore Tabs". I have so far been unable to retrieve most of tabs that were missing, which is actually really no fun. What is also frustrating is that I am totally unable to see my Firefox history as separated by my different devices, which could have been useful in retrieving the tabs.

In any case, I have opened an issue on github (https://github.com/mozilla-mobile/firefox-ios/issues/15922) and I hope that they can resolve this issue soon. It would also be great if I could see my Firefox history from different devices.

Thank you. Did you have history set as an item in Firefox Sync?
