Hello, I recently tried to create an account to sync everything in firefox on my phone, but after a few attempts the account page just wouldn't load, so I decided to update the app because it was quite some time ago since I last updated it.

But right after the update, everything's gone: bookmarks, history, tabs. I was brought to a getting started page like I never installed firefox. I checked the bookmarks/history options but nothing was there. Shouldn't the app preserve its existing data even after an update? Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

If you were using the previous design of Firefox for Android (version 68), this has not been supported for a number of years and with that the ability to move bookmarks and other data to a newer version of Firefox for Android is also not supported.

Hi Ryan

Was this an update through the Google Play store?

Were you updating from a much older version of Firefox for Android?

Hi Paul, thanks for replying. I updated it through the Google Play store. And yes, the version was quite old before I updated it. Does updating older version normally overwrite the data? Thanks.

Thanks for replying. Based on what you suggested, it was likely the previous older version. Does it mean updating to the newer version overwrote the previous version's data?

Edit: I'm sorry for asking the same question over and over again. But it's because I'm very concerned about the bookmarks. Is there any way to get them back? If this info helps, I didn't do anything other than updating it. Thanks.

Unless you had previously synced your bookmarks to a copy of Firefox on a different device, it is not going to be possible to recover them.
