newsgroup account needs outgoing smtp server

more options

i'm using thunderbird to read and post on usenet, it works, but i noticed that it is also sending out emails with every post i make, i see that in the settings for the newsgroup account the default outgoing smtp server is configured, and i can't remove it, is there a setting to not send emails when posting to usenet?

Chosen solution

More information will help. Clicking 'reply' generates an email, while 'followup' generates a newsgroup post. Also, SMTP server is not required for newsgroup posts. That feature is provided for those situations where you wish to send email to a correspondent on the newsgroup.
